Mountain Sun Isadore Java Porter

Another beer I ordered at Mountain Sun Brewery in Boulder was the Isadore Java Porter. The beer pours a dark brown color with a frothy beige colored head. The aroma consists of fresh coffee, espresso, java, chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. The taste is bold with freshly brewed coffee, java, chocolate, and a toasted malt base. There is a touch of vanilla and caramel on the finish. The alcohol content is 6.0% ABV. The amount of coffee that was present in this beer was amazing and it tasted freshly brewed. Lots of coffee-related also surfaced on a solid chocolate base with the perfect amount of vanilla on the finish.

Mountain Sun F.Y.I.P.A.

I ordered a glass of F.Y.I.P.A. while at Mountain Sun Brewery in Boulder. The beer pours a brilliant amber color with a frothy white colored head. The aroma consists of tangerine, pine, orange, and lemon. The taste is bitter with tangerine, orange, pepper, and grapefruit. The finish has some caramel and plenty of hop oils that linger on the tongue after the beer is finished. The alcohol content is 7.5% ABV. I was looking for a fresh tasting IPA with lots of citrus flavors and an oily goodness, and I absolutely found the beer I was looking for in the F.Y.I.P.A.

Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery Hop Vivant

Another beer I ordered at Mountain Sun Brewery & Pub was the Hop Vivant. The beer pours a copper color with a frothy cream colored head. The aroma consists of grapefruit, tangerine, pine, lemon, and caramel. The taste is sticky and oily with plenty of bitterness and citrus flavors including tangerine, grapefruit, and orange. All of these flavors are built upon a solid caramel base that hangs on for a second before an alcohol burn with pepper spices takes over on the finish. The alcohol content is 9.7% ABV. I would say that the Hop Vivant really warms the soul and, in my opinion, is better than Pliny the Elder. For confirmation purposes, I ordered a glass of Pliny the Elder the same night at Falling Rock Tap House, and I stand by my claim.

Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery Saison D'Ete

One of the brewpubs that I visited while in Boulder for Great American Beer Fest was Mountain Sun. They had some of their all time favorite beers on tap for the festival, so I ordered a glass of Saison D'Ete (and forgot to snap a photo of it). The beer pours a golden color with a bubbly white head. The aroma is faint but has hints of grassy hops with lemon and pepper hiding in the background. The mouth feel is very bubbly on the tongue. The taste is light and lemony with some pepper and pine, providing a great spiciness on the tongue. There is a dry finish with an earthiness to it, hints of dirt lingering around for a while. The alcohol content is not available online, but I would guess it to be about 6.0% ABV. The Saison D'Ete was a refreshing beer with a clean body, and I would suggest you give it a try if you are ever in Boulder.
