Lagunitas PILS Czech Style Pils

While at Hough’s in Pittsburgh for Craft Beer Week, I ordered a glass of Lagunitas PILS Czech Style Pils while the Lagunitas representative was present. The beer pours a golden color with a thin filmy white head. I feel like there had been a larger head but it had subsided by the time I received the glass due to it sitting for a bit. The aroma consists simply of grass and caramel and isn’t overly complex. The taste is dry and grassy with some pine accents sitting atop a light caramel and toffee backbone. The alcohol content is 6.2% ABV. This wasn’t an overly complex beer or too daring, but it was easily drinkable and much more enjoyable of those industrial American pilsners.

Lagunitas IPA

Occasionally, I will do a re-review of a beer if it was from my beer tasting infancy days and I don’t feel that I fully captured the beer. This Lagunitas IPA review is one of them. I ordered a glass while at Point Brugge in Pittsburgh during Craft Beer Week. The beer  pours an amber color with a frothy white head that leaves a thin lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of fresh citrus, lemon, resiny funky hops, rainwater, orange, and candisugar. The taste brings some toffee and caramel on the front end before lemon, pine, and orange take over with a bitterness. A grassy and peppery hop after taste lingers behind. The alcohol content is 6.2% ABV. I was blown away by the aroma and the freshness attributed to it. The taste was also pretty good, but I kept coming back to the resiny and fresh rainwater aroma that was enjoyable throughout the experience.

Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale

My buddy Matt bought a six-pack of Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale and gave me a bottle to try. The beer pours a golden color with a frothy white head that recedes rather rapidly. The aroma consists of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, orange, and spruce. The taste is rather hoppy and bitter with lots of tangerine, grapefruit, orange, and lemon. The finish brings out spruce and pepper. The alcohol content is 7.85% ABV. A turn from the typical holiday ales, this beer was really hoppy and rather delicious. I loved the amount of citrus flavors and a great bitterness to it.

Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball

While at Fat Head’s in Pittsburgh, I ordered a glass of Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball. The beer pours a brown color with a thin filmy tan head. The aroma consists of sweet malts, raisin, smoke, alcohol, and cherry. The taste is strong, bold, and very malty with cherry flavors, toasted malts, and hints of smoke that are well masked. There is a lightly dry finish with alcohol and grassy hops. The alcohol content is 8.8% ABV. This was a wonderful beer that was more than enjoyable to drink and was really dynamic, especially with the slight cherry twist and smoky background.

Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout

I ordered a bottle of Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout from Beer on the Wall. The beer pours a black color with a thin frothy tan head. The aroma consists of chocolate, coffee, and toasted malts with a faint background of caramel. The taste is dry but smooth with a hefty helping of chocolate, coffee, and espresso. The beer finishes with a toasted malt flavor, some vanilla, and a milky flavor. The alcohol content is 8.8% ABV. The Cappuccino Stout was a wonderfully smooth drinking beer with great chocolate and coffee flavors, as expected.

Lagunitas Censored (The Kronic)

My girlfriend picked up a bottle of Lagunitas Censored (aka The Kronic), a rich copper ale, from Honeygo Wines in Maryland and gave me some to try. The aroma consists of sweet with lots of caramel and toffee. The taste is sweet and full of caramel and toffee that is lightly toasted. The alcohol content is 5.9% ABV. This is somewhat of a bready brew, but the caramel and toffee really sweeten the overall flavor of the beer.

Lagunitas Brown Shugga

I grabbed a bottle of Lagunitas Brown Shugga from Brass Rail in Campbelltown in a mixed six-pack. The beer pours a dark amber color with a small foamy off-white colored head. The aroma consists of maple syrup, brown sugar, and alcohol. The taste is very sweet at first and hits hard with molasses, caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, and cinnamon. The beer dries out on the finish with an alcohol kick. The alcohol content is 9.84% ABV, which also punches the tongue in the after taste. All I can say about this beer is “Wow!” Although it is a very sweet brew, the alcohol and carbonation balance nice to provide a (surprisingly) smooth drinking beer.

Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot

I picked up a bottle of Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot from Barley's and Hops in Pittsburgh. The beer pours a brown-amber color with a frothy tan head. The aroma consists of raisin and malts, with some underlying caramel. The taste is filled with raisin and fig with some caramel and toffee sweetness. There are also hints of apricot and orange peel. It finishes with some bitter chocolate and a some flowers and pine. The alcohol content is 7.83% ABV. I thought that the flavors in this beer were very random but worked really well together. It was a truly enjoying brew that kept the tongue guessing through the entire experience.

Lagunitas IPA

I ordered a draft of Lagunitas IPA at McGrath's in downtown Harrisburg. The beer has an amber color with a foamy white head. The aroma is sweet and floral with hints of pepper. The taste is light citrus with pepper hops with a light undertone of caramel. The alcohol content is 5.7% ABV. I thought that the beer had a perfect balance of hops and was very good. I would recommend this IPA for anyone who does not like an overpowering hop beer, and I will definitely be ordering this again in the future.
