Bull and Bush Black Coast IPA

My friends and I went to dinner at Bull and Bush in Denver and I decided to order their Black Coast IPA, a black IPA. The beer pours a black color with a frothy tan head that leaves lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of chocolate, lemon, and pepper. The taste is bitter with lemon, toasted malts, and a  chocolate roundness that balances out everything. There is a peppery finish with pine that dries out the mouth a little bit and puts some spice on the back of the tongue. The alcohol content is not available online, but I would estimate it to be about 6.5% ABV. I would put this beer as a solid performer in the category. It's not the standard bearer or as intense as Stone's 15th Anniversary, but it was quite enjoyable and went very well with the honey-bourbon-chipotle wings that we ordered as an appetizer.

Bull & Bush Captain Midnight Black Saison

Another beer I ordered at Row 14 was the Bull & Bush Captain Midnight Black Saison (they had a Bull & Bush tap takeover previous night). The beer pours a black color with a bubbly tan head. The aroma consists of chocolate, roasted malts, and lemon. The taste is dry and chocolaty with roasted malts a plenty. A good helping of lemon and orange citrus accents was provided as well. There is a Belgian yeast finish with pepper spices on the back of the mouth. The alcohol content is not available online, but I would estimate it to be about 6.5% ABV. I'm new to the black saison category, but I must say that I was a big fan of this beer and its citrus flavors on top of chocolate malts. It's not as bitter as a Black IPA, but provides a lot of the same flavorings.

Bull & Bush Hop Karl

I met up with Lee from Hoptopia for lunch in Denver at Row 14, as they were having a fresh hop beer event. The only beer that had since it was the first day of the promotion was the Bull & Bush Hop Karl, but I didn't hesitate to give it a try. The beer pours a golden color with a bubbly white head. The aroma consists of caramel, ice cream (weird, I know), grass, and pine. The taste is dry but has a wonderfully sweet caramel undertone. There were plenty of earthy hops strewn across this beer with dirt and grass accents and hints of pine and lemon. The alcohol content is not available online but I would guess it to be about 5.5% ABV. This was certainly a delicious harvest ale that hit all of the right notes, from fresh hops to caramel flavors.

Bull & Bush Man Beer

The final beer I ordered at Bull & Bush Pub & Brewery was the Man Beer (had to be ordered to keep up my reputation). This English IPA pours an amber color with a frothy white head. The aroma consists of lots of caramel and toffee with light lemon accent and some hints of rye. The taste is smooth and sweet, again with lots a caramel. There is a refreshing lemon accent and some earthy, dry, and bitter English hops that come out in the finish. The alcohol content is 7.0% ABV. This was a great example of an English IPA in my book, and if you are ever in the Denver area, I suggest you stop in and order a glass.

Bull & Bush A Lotta Cougar

Another beer that I ordered at Bull & Bush Pub & Brewery was A Lotta Cougar. The beer pours an opaque brown color with an almost non-existent head. The aroma consists of toasted malts with lots of bourbon accents and vanilla as well. The taste is smooth with a bite of bourbon that dries the mouth, a light cherry twist, and some raisin and toasted malts. A balancing vanilla flavor comes out in the finish with oak as well. The alcohol content is not available online, but I would guess it to be approximately 10.0% ABV. Despite being aged in bourbon barrels, this beer comes out smooth and is excellently crafted.

Bull & Bush 40th Anniversary Wheat Wine

My buddy suggested highly that we go to Bull & Bush Pub & Brewery while in Denver, and the first beer I ordered when we went was the 40th Anniversary Wheat Wine. The beer pours a reddish amber color with thin bubbly off-white head. The aroma is sweet with raisin, wheat, and fig. The taste is rounded on the tongue and smooth. There are raisin, fig, wheat, and Belgian yeast flavors that all come out to play. There is a nice Belgian spice kick on the finish. The alcohol content is not available online, but I would guess it to be approximately 9.0% ABV. I thought the 40th Anniversary was an excellent example of a wheat wine and I would definitely have another glass of it.
