Cisco Brewers The Woods Lady of the Woods

While at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville for my bachelor party, I ordered a bottle of Cisco Brewers The Woods Lady of the Woods. The beer pours a golden color with a bubbly white colored head. The aroma consists of vinegar, grapes, oak, tartness, and cherry. The taste is nice and tart with a slight pucker on the front end. Grapes, vinegar, and peaches all mix to create a complex taste with an oak finish that has a hint of sugar. The alcohol content is 5.0% ABV. The Lady of the Woods is a wonderful sour and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes the style. It gave enough of a pucker, but sweetened on the finish in a most forgiving fashion.

Cisco Brewers Island Reserve Saison Farm House Ale

As part of the August shipment of the Michael Jackson Rare Beer of the Month Club I received a bottle of Cisco Brewers Island Reserve Saison Farm House Ale. The beer pours a cloudy golden color with a lofty and frothy off-white colored head that leaves a thick lacing on the glass as it subsides. The aroma consists of lemon, grass, hay, barnyard funk, and horse blanket. The taste is funky and overly delicious with a great helping of lemon, hay, grass, and barnyard flavors. It finishes with a bit of a funk and some pepper and Belgian spice on the finish. The alcohol content is 6.0% ABV. This was a nice and funky saison with great spices. Overall, it was easy to drink and quite refreshing.

Cisco Brewers Indie Pale Ale

I grabbed a bottle of Cisco Brewers Indie Pale Ale from D’s Six Pax and Dogz while in Pittsburgh. The beer pours a copper color with a foamy white colored head that leaves some lacing behind on the glass. The aroma consists of grapefruit, tangerine, passion fruit, caramel, lemon, and pine. The taste is dry and bitter with roasted caramel coming up front before the citrus burst of grapefruit, tangerine, orange, and lemon. There are also hints of passion fruit before the finish brings out pepper and spruce. The alcohol content is 7.58% ABV. I like the citrus aspect of this beer, but I felt that the toasted malt flavors slightly got in the way of it being refreshing and excellently hopped. Don’t get me wrong: I liked the beer, but I wouldn’t put it up there with the best IPAs.

Cisco Whale's Tale Pale Ale

I bought a can of Cisco Brewers Whale's Tale Pale Ale from Brass Rail in Campbelltown, PA. The beer pours a yellow-gold color with a lofty foamy white head and a good lacing that sticks to the glass. The aroma consists of pale malts and a nice helping of hops that smell of pine and pepper. The taste is phenomenal with a good malt base and a bit of buttery crackers. What sets this beer apart is the good hop accents that bring out lemon, pepper, and pine flavors into the beer. The hops are wet and biting, but do not dry out the mouth. The alcohol content is 5.6% ABV. I was thoroughly impressed with this pale ale, as the flavors were well balanced and the hops were a very enjoyable part of this beer.
