Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA

I went to Al’s of Hampden on a Friday night with some friends and I ordered a glass of Oskar Blues Deviant Dale’s IPA. The beer pours an amber color with a frothy white colored head. The aroma consists of pine, resin, skunk (the animal), sticky oil, and lemon. The taste is sticky and bitter with lots of hop oils and resins, lemon, orange, and a peppery dry finish. The alcohol content is 8.0% ABV. I thought this was a really good beer and I would go back to this in a heartbeat. For comparison, my buddy ordered the cask version of this beer, and I thought the cask killed the bitterness and hid the resinous nature of the beer, so I’d recommend sticking with the original.

Oskar Blues HGH

My friends and I took a road trip up to Oskar Blues, and I decided to order a glass of Oskar Blues HGH (Home Grown Hope). The beer pours an amber color with a thin bubbly white head. The aroma is malty with hints of lemon, caramel, and tangerine. The taste is bitter and citrusy with tangerine, lemon, and grapefruit. A reside is left behind that is slightly oily and a bit sticky, which was much appreciated from the added hops. The alcohol content is 8.0% ABV. Another hit and great beer from Oskar Blues that really took advantage of hops without being too bitter.

Oskar Blues Winter Fidy

While at Al’s of Hampden, I ordered a glass of Oskar Blues Winter Fidy, a beer that I was not aware existed. The beer pours a black color with a frothy tan head. The aroma consists of juniper, cardamom, chocolate, and a healthy helping of alcohol. The taste is smooth and chocolaty with good juniper and cardamom accents. The floral side of this beer is amazing and alcohol is well hidden, but it really provides an experience like no other beer. Some coffee flavor peeks through on the finish. The alcohol content is 10.5% ABV. The balance of flowers and chocolate worked better than I could have ever imagined and I really want to have another glass of this beer.

Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

Another brewery I stopped into with my friends while in the Denver area was Oskar Blues. With dinner, I ordered a glass of the Ten Fidy. The beer pours a black color with a tan filmy head. The aroma consists of chocolate with oak and alcohol accents lingering. The taste is big on chocolate with some good oak accents. Hidden behind the oak wall is some raisin and toffee flavors. The Ten Fidy was quite smooth while drinking, but quite bitey with the alcohol finish. The alcohol content is 9.6% ABV. I really enjoyed the Ten Fidy, as oak accents and chocolate are two things in a beer that make me very happy.

Oskar Blues GUBNA Imperial IPA

I stopped in to TJ's in Paoli after a Philadelphia Union game. The first beer I ordered was Oskar Blues GUBNA Imperial IPA. The beer pours a brilliant amber color with a thin bubbly white head. The beer smells of orange and lemon and is lightly floral. The taste is sweet and smooth with citrus flavors consisting of grapefruit and lemon. The finish has a flowery taste as well that seemed to taste like a rose and then transforms into a pink grapefruit bite. The alcohol content is 10.0% ABV. I thought that the GUBNA was delicious and very intense with the citrus and hop flavors.

Dale's Pale Ale

At McGrath's in Harrisburg, they recently tapped a keg of Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale. The beer is amber in color with a light hop aroma. There is a slight malt taste at the front of the beer, and it finishes with a strong accent of hops. The after taste is dry and hoppy, but clean and fresh. The alcohol content is 6.5% ABV. This beer has been dubbed one of the best canned beers in the world, winning several awards, but I had it on draft. I would like to try it in a can as well and see if there is any difference. Overall, it was a really decent pale ale and worth the purchase.
