Moylan's Old Blarney on cask with American Oak and Vanilla Bean

I stopped in to Al’s of Hampden for a few beverages and I ordered Moylan’s Old Blarney on cask with American oak and Vanilla Bean. The beer pours a red-amber color with a filmy white head. The aroma has lots of caramel, raisin, oak, malts, and vanilla. The taste is smooth and creamy on the tongue with lots of alcohol and malts. There is a sharp dry bite from the alcohol before caramel, raisin, and vanilla arrive and give the beer its sweetness. There is a dry oak finish with some pine hop flavor. The alcohol content is 10% ABV. This was an excellent dry and sweet beer that packs a flavor punch, an excellent example of what a casked barleywine should be.

Moylan's White Christmas Spiced Winter Lager

I picked up a bottle of Moylan's White Christmas Spiced Winter Lager. The beer pours a golden color with a frothy white head. The aroma consists of malts, coriander, orange, and cinnamon. The taste is smooth and malts with a dry spiced accent with cinnamon, coriander, and pepper. The finish is sweet with malts and leave an impression of orange. The alcohol content is 6.0% ABV. I found it interesting that the bottle indicates that the beer has mace in it, but having never been sprayed in the face with it (yet!), I am not familiar with the flavor, so I cannot confirm its presence. Otherwise, this a great spiced beer with plenty of flavors on top of a very solid lager.

Moylen's Moylander Double IPA

While at Al's, I picked up a growler of Moylen's Moylander Double IPA for a Fourth of July picnic. The beer pours a copper color with a foamy white head. It has a pine and orange aroma with caramel sweetness. The taste is sweet with caramel with a good pepper bite and some excellent lemon accents. The alcohol content is 8.5% ABV. The Moylander was delicious and really enjoyable and has a good bite for a hot summer day. The hop bit was bitter, but the caramel and lemon balanced it out nicely.

Moylan's Hopsickle

I ordered a glass of Moylan's Hopsickle from Al's of Hampden. The beer pours a golden color with a bubbly white head. The aroma is a good balance between lemon and grapefruit. The taste is heavy on lemon at first and finishes with grapefruit bitterness and tart. There are some pepper and pine hops that hit the tongue with some force. A great caramel base that is hidden but very much appreciated comes through after the finish. The alcohol content is 9.2% ABV. The Hopsickle was a very good beer, and that was apparent from the first sip. The caramel undertone that comes through on the finish made the experience very delightful.
