Lancaster Brewing Double Chocolate Milk Stout

I took my fiancee out to lunch one day at Lancaster Brewing Company, and I ordered a glass of Double Chocolate Milk Stout. The beer pours a black color with a frothy beige head. The aroma is filled with dark chocolate that is bitter on the nose, caramel, and roasted malts. The taste is bold with dark and bitter chocolate up front. Caramel comes out in the transition as milk chocolate sweetens the finish. A dry after taste with the roasted flavor is left behind and lingers for a while. The alcohol content is 6.7% ABV. I thought this was actually a pretty solid offering from Lancaster Brewing Company, as I am not always a fan of their beers. There was plenty of great chocolate flavor that comes from nibs and not powder, making it a great beer.

Lancaster Brewing Company Boss Hog

At Al's of Hampden, I ordered a glass of Lancaster Brewing Boss Hog, a Double IPA. The beer pours a copper color with a thin filmy white head. The aroma consists of grapefruit, lemon, and sugar. The taste is caramel and bitey grapefruit. There is a light lemon finish with an orange accent and hints of rye. The alcohol content is 10.10% ABV. I find that most of the Lancaster beers have the light rye undertone, so this beer was most discernible as Lancaster's. I thought the beer was surprisingly good, as I don't overly enjoy most of Lancaster's line-up. If you have the chance to try the Boss Hog, give it a shot.

Lancaster Brewing Company Double Chocolate Milk Stout

I went to Al's of Hampden to order a glass of Lancaster Double Chocolate Milk Stout. The beer pours a black color with a thin bubbly tan head. The aroma consists of lots of chocolate with milk accents. The taste is big on chocolate, some oak hidden in there, and toasted malts. The alcohol content is 6.7% ABV. I thought the Double Chocolate Milk Stout was very delicious but does come off a little dry for a milk stout.

Lancaster Brewing Company Kolsch

I picked up a case of Lancaster Brewing Company Kolsch in cans for my trip to the beach. The beer pours a golden color with a lofty foamy white head. The aroma consists of lemon citrus and light hops. The taste is light and sweet with a good malt base and lemon accents. The beer finishes with a light spicy finish, but quite smooth. The alcohol content is 4.8% ABV. This Kolsch was a great example of the style and very well done. It pairs really well with the beach and summertime weather, so grab it while you CAN (see what I did there?) and take it on vacation.

Lancaster Brewing Company Rumspringa Golden Bock

While at TJ's in Paoli, I ordered a glass of Lancaster Brewing Company Rumspringa Golden Bock. The beer pours a golden color with a thin filmy white head. The aroma is sweet and malty, with the sweetness coming from honey. The taste is sweet and malty with plenty of lemon flavor and a little bit of lemon accent. The alcohol content is 6.6% ABV. This beer finishes very smoothly, most likely due to the honey addition. Despite being named for the wild time in an Amish teenager's life, it is rather tame, but not in a bad way.

Lancaster Brewing Company Oktoberfest

I stopped into Lancaster Brewing Company to grab some food and a glass of their Oktoberfest. The beer is amber in color with a light frothy head. It has a malty aroma.The taste is sweet and malty with crisp hops on the tongue. There is also a slight hint of caramel. The alcohol content is 6.5% ABV. This was an excellent oktoberfest beer, and the freshness was apparent. It actually ranks up there as one of my favorite oktoberfest beers. I plan on making a return visit for another pint or two.

Lancaster Brewing Company

My boy Chris wanted to go to Lancaster Brewing Company for his birthday to have a few quality beers for his birthday. Loving quality beer, I could not complain. Here are five of the beers I took pictures of that I tried. Some of the beers I have had before, but felt the need to post them.

Strawberry Wheat

The Strawberry Wheat is one of my favorite LBC beers, and one cannot go wrong ordering this. There is a great flavor of strawberry in this beer, and it is not too overpowering. The beer runs at 4.7% ABV. All in all, the beer is very refreshing and does a nice job of quenching your thirst.

Rare Rooster Rye Ale

This was my first time trying the Rare Rooster Rye Ale, but I was fairly impressed. The beer is very dry and leaves a peppery aftertaste, but the beer does have a nice flavor. The beer is very light in color and runs at 4.8% ABV. This isn't a beer to drink in quantity, but having one or two is the perfect dose of the rooster.

Milk Stout

As far as stouts go, the Milk Stout is fairly run of the mill. It runs at 5.3% ABV and has an excellent dark color. The taste is pretty fresh and has slight hints of chocolate and coffee. It is a decent beer, but not my favorite stout of all time.

Gold Star Pilsner

I was most impressed with the Gold Star Pilsner. I had not previously tasted the Pilsner, but the flavor was excellent. The malts overpower the hops to bring a nice smooth taste. The beer runs at 5.1% ABV and I highly recommend trying the Pilsner. I will definitely order it everytime I go back.

Fest Beer Amber Lager

The Fest Beer Amber Lager had an excellent taste and had a good balance of hops added to the beer. The lager has a nice amber color and runs at 5.6% ABV. The Fest Beer Amber Lager is a little creamy, especially in the head, but very smooth. The lager is not my favorite beer, but definitely enjoyable.

I highly recommend going to Lancaster Brewing Company. Most of the beers will not "wow" you, but they are high quality decent beers. I now recommend the Gold Star Pilsner in addition to the Strawberry Wheat.
