AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale

I picked up a bottle of AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale from Al’s of Hampden. The beer pours an extremely pale golden color with a frothy white head. The aroma consists of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, spruce, and pine. The taste is dry and bubbly on the tongue with a light pale malt flavor, tangerine, lemon and grapefruit citrus, and an peppery finish. The after taste is dry and has a little bit of caramel. The alcohol content is 5.0% ABV. The X is a light bodied beer that packs a big punch of citrus flavor and a peppery finish. It is quite refreshing and not too heavy, perfect for imbibing during those warm summer months.

Weyerbacher X Decadence

I received a bottle of Weyerbacher X Decadence in a beer trade, the tenth anniversary beer from Weyerbacher and released in 2005. The beer pours a dark amber color with a fizzy and bubbly off-white head that recedes rapidly. The aoma consists of a large helping of sweet honey, lemon peel, lime, and spices. The taste is very sweet and smooth with Belgian yeast, spices, honey, banana, lime, and lemon. The finish comes on strong with the bite of alcohol and dries out that mouth. The alcohol content is 13.0% ABV. I felt this beer took on the properties of a good tequila, sans the alcohol content, but was quite delicious. It was a little on the sweet side, maybe due to the age, but the one glass I drank was enjoyable.
