Shorts Brew Huma Lupa Licious IPA

I received a bottle of Shorts Brew Huma Lupa Licious IPA in a beer trade with Cleveland Food and Brews. The beer pours a golden color with a frothy and lofty white head that leaves specs of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of tangerine, orange, lemon, pine, funk, and caramel. The taste is bitter and dank with lots of funky citrus including tangerine, passion fruit, pineapple, orange, and lemon. There is a hint of caramel in the background, and the finish brings out a hop oil, pepper, and spruce. The alcohol content is 6.9% ABV. This was a fantastic dank IPA with a great passion fruit flavor that was accompanied with other citrus flavors. The whole profile was more than enjoyable, and I would definitely drink another one.

Short's Bourbon Barrel Aged Wizard

I ordered a glass of Short's Bourbon Barrel Aged Wizard at Falling Rock Tap House in Denver during Great American Beer Fest. The beer pours a black color with a thin bubbly tan head. The aroma consists of chocolate, vanilla, and of course, bourbon. The taste is dry and chocolaty, although I was disappointed that I was more of a powder flavor than chocolate nibs. I quickly forgave that shortcoming when the loads of of bourbon and vanilla flavors made their was through. There was a smooth finish with some milk chocolate flavors as well. The alcohol content is 11.0% ABV. I enjoyed the flavors in this beer, event the powdered cocoa flavors, and felt that they were not overpowered by the bourbon either.

Short's Brew Beach Wheat

Another beer my friend Josh brought over to share was the Short’s Brew Beach Wheat. The beer pours a golden color with a thin filmy white head. The aroma consists of wheat, lemon, grass, and pepper. The taste is slightly sour and puckering with a large lemon profile. There is plenty of wheat flavor in the base and the finish has some peppery and grassy hops. The alcohol content is 5.0% ABV. On their own scale, this beer was rather tame for Short’s, but an excellent beer nonetheless. It was packed with lemon flavors and had a great refreshing quality about it.

Short's Brew Black Licorice Lager

My friend Josh brought over a bottle of Short’s Brew Black Licorice Lager to share. The beer pours dark brown color with a bubbly off-white colored head. The aroma consists of chocolate, licorice, and a hint of mint. The taste is big on licorice, spicy toasted malts, and lightly puckering, very similar to licorice candies. There are hints of chocolate and caramel in the background and a coffee and vanilla finish. The after taste brings licorice back and is wonderful. The alcohol content is 8.0% ABV. Admittedly, I really enjoy the flavor or licorice, and I think that Short’s was able to capture that flavor nicely in a bottle without being too overpowering, even though it was clearly the focus of the beer.
