Troegs Scratch 78- Fresh Hops Ale

I picked up a case of Troegs Scratch 78- Fresh Hops Ale from the brewery. The beer pours a golden color with a frothy white colored head that leaves a thin lacing on the glass as it subsides. The aroma consists of orange, tangerine, hop oil, funk, and grapefruit. The taste is funky and hoppy with tangerine, orange, and grapefruit. There is a peppery spice on the back of the tongue with a nice caramel backbone. The alcohol content is 7.7% ABV. I loved the citra hop flavors that were complimented very nicely with the nugget hops, hinting that it is only a few month away from Nugget Nectar.

Troegs Scratch 49- Fresh Hop Ale

On the last day of the original Troegs tasting room, I stopped in to pick up a case of Troegs Scratch 49- Fresh Hop Ale. The beer pours a pale golden color with a frothy white head that leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of grapefruit, tangerine, caramel, and grass. The taste is all about the fresh hops, bringing out some grapefruit, tangerine, sugar, and orange. The taste is very bitter but quite enjoyable, and pepper, grass, and pine comes out in the finish. The after taste leaves a hint of caramel behind. The alcohol content is 7.2% ABV. This beer was advertised as a Fresh Hop Ale, and it delivered. The base of the beer was lightly malty with hints of caramel, but the beer was completely focused on the bitter and citrusy hops.

Troegs Scratch 35- Fresh Hop Ale

I stopped in to Troegs to pick up a case of Scratch 35- Fresh Hop Ale. The main flavor in Scratch 35 is 100 pounds of fresh Citra hops. The beer was brewed only a day after the hops were picked, and they were not dried. The beer pours a golden color with a foamy white head that really sticks to the glass as it dissipates. The aroma consists of lots of citrus, namely grapefruit and orange. The taste is smooth and full with a good caramel base before big hit of grapefruit comes forward. What strikes me as different with this beer is that the grapefruit has a kick and is a little more bitey, where most are somewhat mellow. The alcohol content is 7.2% ABV. Anyone that knows me knows that I love citra hop, and the addition of fresh hops to this beer was completely enjoyable. I liked how much bite came with it, but the number one thing that makes this beer amazing is its freshness.
